There is no doubt that Dalida has talent and 40 Success En Or is great. This is one of greatest albums of Dalida. Self-described as Easy Listening with lots of words, Dalida comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. 40 Success En Or is the best essence of Dalida.
Bambino (Guaglione) is the kind of record that makes you remember why music can be so addictive. Ciao Ciao Bambina (Piove) is excellent work of Dalida. Gondolier (With All My Heart) is a striking and quite long song. In Gitans Dalida is at his best. Come Prima (Tu Me Donnes) [From un Air de Famille] (2:39) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Romantica is possibly the best song Dalida has come up. Love in Portofino (A San Cristina) is one of the coolest songs Dalida has ever recorded. Best song on the album, love it. Voice and instruments in Danse de Zorba complement each other. Des Millions de Larmes stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. I can’t stop humming along Garde-Moi la Derni Danse (Save the Last Dance for Me). If you are a Dalida fan, you will love Jour le Plus Long (Longest Day). Chaque Instant de Chaque Jour (Any Old Time of Day) hits the heart. Que Sont Devenues Les Fleurs is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Nuits d’Espagne (Spanish Harlem) - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Eux is a bit different from Dalida stereotypical stuff. Bonsoir Mon Amour (Il Silenzio) is worth the money. Itsi Bitsi Petit Bikini (Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot …) is the cool blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. You have to get essence of the Grilles de Ma Maison (Green Green Grass of Home)’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Salma Ya Salama (3:01) - awsome. Parle Plus Bas (Le Parrain) is a marvelous song and it grows on you. Comme Disait Mistinguett is probably the highlight of the album. Lambeth Walk is the more seemingly obscure song on 40 Success En Or that bear up best to repeated listening. Nice and different song. The first time I listened to Il Pleut Sur Bruxelles I was struck by its perfect sound. I was truly moved when I heard Il Venait d’Avoir Dix-Huit Ans. Mamma is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Il Faut Danser Reggae is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. Kalimba de Luna is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. The sound in Laissez-Moi Danser (Monday Tuesday) is really warm and Dalida’s signature voice is still very much present. Strong, powerful vocals of Dalida in J’Attendrai are very impressive. Besame Mucho (Embrasse-Moi) - Check out that bassline! Rio Do Brasil is pretty funky and mellow. Mourir Sur Sc make listening to Dalida like being in some sort of time warp. Paroles Paroles gives taste of what makes Dalida special as a musician. Darla Dirladada (D’Apres Folklore Grec) is almost impossible to review. Dalida offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself.
