Since completing 1997’s ‘Day O’, Harry Belafonte fulfilled their contract with Castle Communications and where under no obligation to release another album. Since Harry Belafonte last CD (Calypso From Jamaica) on Castle Communications back in 1997, I have felt a massive void in my life. This is one of the best Cd’s Harry Belafonte has dropped to date. Calypso From Jamaica is my first Harry Belafonte Album and i must say i am blown away.
Jamaica Farewell - My least favorite song on this album. Matilda is pretty funky and mellow. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Calypso From Jamaica. Man Smart (Woman Smarter) is nothing but pure genius. Kingston Market is absolutely incredible. Jump Down, Spin Around - Okay, I just talked about depth. Island in the Sun hits the heart. Harry Belafonte breathes new life into the music in Brown Skin Girl. I came to like Jack-Ass Song. I Do Adore Her is one of the more up-tempo songs on Calypso From Jamaica. Hosanna - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Man Piaba as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. All My Trials has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. You can find feelings on this piece of art. Musically Dolly Dawn is superior to other tracks in Calypso From Jamaica. Harry Belafonte offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself.
