Self-described as Celtic with lots of words, Alan Stivell comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. You need to listen )Zoom( (CD2). It’s really cool. This is the first studio album from Alan Stivell since bad diagnosis in 1997. )Zoom( (CD2) is what good Celtic should be.
Suite Sudamoricaine sets the tone for the entire album. Overall a nice softer song. The sound in Rouantelezh Vreizh (Breton Kingdom) is really warm and Alan Stivell’s signature voice is still very much present. Beg Ar Van (La pointe du Van) had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Song ‘Raog Mont D’Ar Skol (avant d’aller a l’ecole) is actually a funny song. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Delivrance is the first taste of the new album. One listen to the sheer beauty of Ne Bado Ket Atao was all I needed. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Ar Bale (La marche vers la cite) one is one of the better boring ones. I have all of Alan Stivell’s tracks and Spered Hollvedel (Espirit Universel) is probably the most his introspective effort. Da Ewen (To Ewan my son) gets you up and jumping. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is The Return because the melody in the chorus is so good. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Once Pop Plinn gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. So much energy, so exciting a sound.I loved Lands of My Fathers the first time I heard it.
