On The Complete Quartets with Sonny Clark album, Grant Green and Sonny Clark have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Grant Green and Sonny Clark. Self-described as Jazz with lots of words, Grant Green and Sonny Clark comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Enjoy the show.
After about the third Airegin listen through, I began to believe this song is Grant Green and Sonny Clark’s essence. I Concentrate On You is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. It Ain’t Necessarily So - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Nancy (With The Laughing Face) is the amazing blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. You have to get essence of the On Green Dolphin Street’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is The Song Is You because the melody in the chorus is so good. The Things We Did Last Summer - For me, this is the best of the album. What Is This Thing Called Love is probably the highlight of the album.
