On the Finland charts, superstar Blues - Various Artists’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. This is one of greatest albums of Blues - Various Artists. Willie Mae Thornton - Essential Texas Blues (Disk 2 of 2) isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Willie Mae Thornton - Essential Texas Blues (Disk 2 of 2) is what good Blues should be.
Change It (Doyle Bramhall) has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Blues - Various Artists’s strong vocals come to the fore. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. I like to sing along with I Feel So Good (Ivory Joe Hunter), though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. If You Want To See the Blues (Joe “Guitar” Hughes) is worth the money. It’s My Life, Baby (Johnny Winter) - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Although Going Back To the Country (Juke Boy Bonner) is very melodic it is far from sad. Tom Moore Blues (Lightnin’ Hopkins) is the albums biggest surprise. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Reconsider Baby (Lowell Fulson). In Ella Speed (Mance Lipscomb) full palet of sound is used by Blues - Various Artists to accentuate the presentation. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Willie Mae Thornton - Essential Texas Blues (Disk 2 of 2) is Hard Times In the Land of Plenty (Omar and the Howlers). A great put together song. I came to like It’s Been a Mistake (Tutu Jones). Put Why Do Things Happen To Me? (W. C. Clarke) into car stereo for your highway driving Blues - Various Artists has astounded me with this amazing track.
