Since completing 1997’s ‘Beer (Song)’, Mustard Plug fulfilled their contract with 2Point9 Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Lead single “Beer (Song)” and “Box” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Mustard Plug was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Mustard Plug and Evildoers Beware! together. Evildoers Beware! is the best album I have heard in a long time
As always, Mustard Plug’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Go because the melody in the chorus is so good. Jerry is pretty funky and mellow. I now have Mendoza as one of my personal favorites. Voice of Mustard Plug in Miss Michigan is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Never Be the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Not Again is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. I loved Sadie May the first time I heard it. Suburban Homesick Blues stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. You - I like this one.
