nine years ago, Ahmad Jamal briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “There’s A Lull In My Life”. Since completing 1997’s ‘Lament’, Ahmad Jamal fulfilled their contract with Crank! Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Since Ahmad Jamal last CD (Big Byrd: The Essence, Pt. 2) on Crank! Records back in 1997, I have felt a massive void in my life. Great Jazz right here!
You have to get essence of the There’s A Lull In My Life’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Manhattan Reflections gives taste of what makes Ahmad Jamal special as a musician. Big Byrd pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Listening to Jamie My Boy you can hear that Ahmad Jamal has still amazing chemistry with band members. I Love You - To me, this is the best song on the Big Byrd: The Essence, Pt. 2.
